The Magic of Checking Things Off a List
A small tick can feel like a big win, even for simple tasks.
It is easy to see why we make lists. A morning begins, and I write down three things I need to do today. The paper sits on the kitchen table.
When we write a task, it feels lighter in our mind. The brain stops worrying about forgetting something later. We feel better when we see a line cross out on the page.
Some people like long lists with many small steps. They feel safe when they plan every minute of the day. Other people write only one or two big things. They feel proud when they finish a hard job.
The tick mark gives us a feeling of success. It tells our brain that we are doing well today. We can feel happy, even if the day is still busy ahead of us.
Maybe you make a list when you wake up, or maybe you just remember things in your head. Which way helps you feel less worried?
