Trees Outnumber Stars in Our Galaxy
Did you know Earth has more trees than the Milky Way?
There are about three trillion trees on our planet. This is a huge number that is hard to picture at first. The Milky Way, which is our home galaxy, contains many stars. Even so, the number of trees on Earth is still larger. This fact comes from a study done by scientists in 2015. They measured the trees across many different countries and regions.
Most of these trees live in a few places that cover huge areas. The rainforests in South America and Africa hold the most of them. These forests grow on land that is warm and has lots of rain. In these places, the soil is good for roots to go deep down. The trees grow very fast and they do not die easily from cold weather or dry seasons.
The other side of our galaxy is very different in many ways. Some stars are inside clouds of gas that are too thick for life to grow. Most stars in the Milky Way are just single points of light far away. They do not have soil or water to support a forest on their surface. Only a very small number of stars sit on planets that could have trees.
This fact shows how rich our own planet really is in life. It means we should take good care of the forests we have left on Earth. If we cut down too many trees, we might lose a number of them that no other planet in our galaxy can replace. We are the guardians of this green treasure, and it is our job to keep it safe for everyone.
